NECC Hosts Open House for Eye Doctor Assistants
Individuals interested in a career in the eye care industry should attend Northern Essex Community College’s Ophthalmic Assistant Open House on Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. until noon in the iHealth Building, 52 Franklin St. Lawrence. iHealth@NECC offers an ophthalmic assistant certificate designed to be completed in 18 months. In addition to classroom work, students train at two practicum sites. The classes, which are offered online as well as the traditional classroom, provide students with the knowledge and technical skills required for an entry-level position as a certified ophthalmic assistant. To prepare students, the program integrates classroom theory, laboratory experience, and clinical practice. Ophthalmic assistants gather medical histories, conduct vision tests, coordinate patient schedules, and assist eye doctors and eye surgeons with various procedural and clerical duties. iHealth@NECC features a state-of-the-art ophthalmic lab. At the open house faculty will demonstrate the equipment and be available to discuss careers as an ophthalmic assistant. For additional information contact Linda Comeau at 978-738-7408 or lcomeau@necc.mass.edu or visit the ophthalmic assistant information page on the iHealth@NECC website Light refreshments will be available.]]>
